Konica Minolta expands MicroPress Professional to work CMYK wonders with selected bizhub PROs

Langenhagen, Germany, January 2008

The update of Konica Minolta’s print controller MicroPress Professional is a big step forward in control technology for managing on-demand colour production printing. Now, two of the four devices that can be linked together via the enhanced MicroPress Professional may be colour systems. The latest Konica Minolta colour press range qualifies to be managed by the updated print controller, i.e. the high volume systems bizhub PRO C5500, bizhub PRO C6500 and bizhub PRO C6500e/eP. Besides major competence in colour, the new edition maintains its well-established features: it integrates production print flow into a single server and boasts efficiency in completing print jobs with colour splitting and cluster printing. Operation remains easy thanks to the print controller’s user-friendly unified Graphical User Interface (GUI).

The updated print controller MicroPress Professional can now communicate with Konica Minolta’s high-volume colour production printing systems bizhub PRO C5500, bizhub PRO C6500 and bizhub PRO C6500 e/eP. This means users can flexibly and conveniently manage up to four systems including both colour and monochrome devices. Up to two colour systems can easily be controlled by the MicroPress Professional. Thereby, the updated MicroPress Professional ensures full compatibility, versatility, maximum productivity either for monochrome, colour or mixed output along with cost efficiency.

“The fact that the new version of MicroPress Professional is able to also incorporate the latest colour press range of Konica Minolta is another major leap in production printing”, says Karl-Friedrich Edenhuizen, Product Manager at Konica Minolta. “The handling remains easy, too, as the Graphical User Interface displays all machines, including the colour systems bizhub PRO C5500, bizhub PRO C6500 and bizhub PRO C6500e/eP. This means that it literally takes just one glance to monitor and manage all presses – with a single GUI.”

MicroPress Professional is a print controller not only designed to fulfil the pivotal print management role of professional monochrome and colour printing systems. The aim has always been to keep their operation simple. Users of previous editions of MicroPress will appreciate the same look and feel of the GUI in the new version. The unified interface allows easy control and management of all supported machines at the same time, as well as editing, modifying and merging of post ripped print data.

For maximum productivity of mixed outputs which are possible with the updated MicroPress Professional, the print controller features Colour Split. This essential component comes into operation when the product is being printed. Colour Split allows to automatically and immediately separate colour from black and white pages within a document, allocating the pages to the appropriate output devices. The colour device starts printing the colour pages of a certain job, which will then be automatically sorted into the monochrome system’s black-and-white prints – in the correct order. Thus, Colour Split significantly spurs flexibility and improves the handling of mission critical jobs.

Furthermore, Clustering is an important component of MicroPress Professional. Cluster Printing spreads a job simultaneously across several identical devices. This heightens flexibility as well as performance and speed in printing a job. With all four printing systems linked together, a concerted output of up to 420 black and white pages or 130 pages in colour is feasible in just one minute.
